FINAL DAY IN ESTONIA PICTURES

FINAL DAY IN ESTONIA

The NWU Men's Basketball team was victorious once again tonight, defeating BC Parnu. The game was close for the first quarter. Then the Prairie Wolves stormed to a 21 point lead to close the half. BC Parnu countered the NWU run with a comeback of their own. BC slowed the Wesleyan attack with a zone that saw NWU go cold from the field. After a very tight fourth quarter, NWU managed to hold off the BC Parnu charge and secure the victory.

Final Score - Game #3
NWU - 68
BC Parnu - 59

Earlier today, the team went to the beach and enjoyed some sun. Some of the guys swam in the sea. Others played volleyball and mini golf. A few of the members ventured back to the hotel to relax before the game. The team then ate a pre-game game meal and rested before game time.

During our down time, we discussed the different cultural experiences during our trip to Estonia. We compared what we expected to see, and what we actually saw. We also pointed out things that we expected to see that were indeed true. For example, many of us thought that the country would not be very developed; however, it is very much like America. The guys also discussed their favorite parts of the trip. The common theme of the everyone's favorite part of the trip was tree climbing, paintballing, and meeting some very interiting Estonians.

We well depart Parnu in the morning, and return to NWU tomorrow night.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 18

Last night we stayed at the Beaver Farms.  We woke this morning to some of the sounds of the farm animals in the pasture next to our farm house.  We had a fun-filled day yesterday as the team went tree climbing in the morning and played paintball in the afternoon.  We had a team dinner around 9pm and then everyone went to the sauna.

Today we travel to Parnu.  We will have a chance to visit the beach this afternoon.  We practice tonight at 7pm.

We will be updating the blog with photos of tree climbing...  On to Parnu!

GAME RESULTS

Game #1 vs BC Rakvere Tarvas (Monday, August 15)
NWU - 58
BC Rakvere Tarvas - 82

Game #2 vs Tartu Rock (Tuesday, August 16)
NWU - 88
Tartu Rock - 83

We depart this morning for a tree climbing adventure, just outside the city of Tartu.  The afternoon and evening activities include paintball, team dinner (team members will get to try blood sausage), and time in the smoke sauna and lake.

The team has also spent time on our trip discussing our Core Values.  A single Core Value provides a theme for each day/practice/game.  Heading into our first two games, the team presented various quotes dealing with Loyalty and Integrity.  We then discuss how each Core Value applies to the team, both on and off the court.  In our last three days on our trip, we will be exploring Humility, Enthusiasm, and Duty.  - Coach Schuknecht

DAY 5

Today the team traveled from Rakvere to the beautiful colllege city of Tartu. We toured the magnificent Tartu University that has one nobel prize winner to its name and countless other famous philosophers. The team also  learned about the exchange program with NWU, as well as some more Estonian history.  After a very good meal, the team rested for a half hour and went to the arena. The game against Tartu Rock had a wonderful atmosphere with supporters from Tartur and Nebraska Wesleyan showing up in droves. The first half of the game was a strenous and hard fought battle that saw both teams make large runs with Tartu Rock ahead. The second half was also extemely competitive. Both teams showed tremendous effort, although NWU was able to take command of the half and the game through good execution down the stretch. NWU was able to secure victory in convincing fashion.

The team will now travel to Beaver Farms in the morning at 9:30 a.m. sharp! Hopefully the team will get some good rest tonight for tomorrow is a busy day; tree climbing, paintballing, swimming and sauna activites are all on the agenda. NWU plays again on Friday in Parnu.
